I found myself gawking a LOT during my time in America. It’s crazy to me how fast I forgot about all the amazing food available in the states, both in the grocery stores and in restaurants. Our 2 week trip to America started out in one of my favorite cities, New York City! Brett and I absolutely loved living in NYC for 1 year from August 2014- July 2015. There was always something to do, delicious food to eat, and places to explore. It was so wonderful to spend a few days there on the front side of our trip, visiting with friends, walking miles upon miles around the city, and of course, eating amazing vegan food.
Seriously, I was in heaven!
I also got to meet Leah from Love Me Feed Me, which was such a treat! She was my first blogging friend that I’ve ever met in person and it was so fun to spend time with her and indulge in some of my favorite NYC, vegan foods together.
Let’s get to the food shall we?!
My morning started simply with some microwaved oatmeal, a couple chopped dates, a banana, and a spoonful of peanut butter. Because of my “travel belly” (my stomach often feels bloated and I lose my appetite after lots of flying) this breakfast kept me super full up until I met Leah for lunch.
Lunch was absolute perfection and Leah was so gracious to meet me at some of the restaurants I had been dreaming of eating at ever since moving to China. Our lunch started at Cafe Viva Gourmet Pizza on the upper west side and Leah and I shared three different amazing and unique slices of pizza. We had a vegan meatball slice, a veggie slice with vegan cheese, and a super unique green tea slice with roasted garlic and mushrooms. I loved all of the them and couldn’t choose a favorite!
After pizza, we took a walk to my favorite vegan restaurant in NYC, Peacefoods Cafe, where we had a dessert feast! Thankfully Leah and I have practically the same taste buds, so we again shared our desserts. We ordered my favorite chocolate frosting stuffed chocolate chip cookie sandwich and an amazing, decadent carrot cake. I also got a decaf coffee with frothy soy milk. This meal couldn’t have been more perfect. I seriously have been dreaming about eating vegan pizza and dessert from Peacefoods Cafe ever since we knew we were going to America, and my expectations were met in full! I think I’ll remember this meal for a long time:)
Even after miles of walking throughout the city, I was still pretty full from my epic lunch, but I still wanted to eat dinner. I stopped at the grocery store nearby our friend’s house where we were staying and bought some spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, carrot, cucumber, tomato and avocado and made a huge, delicious salad. It was the perfect way to end the day.
That’s everything I ate this day in NYC. It was such a great day of feasting, meeting new people and walking throughout the city. I feel so blessed to have been able to visit my favorite city again and I hope it won’t be too long until I’m back again!
Have you ever been to NYC? If so, what’s your favorite food to eat there?
What’s your favorite dessert?
What are your favorite salad toppings?
