Dairy-Free Turmeric Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon coconut oil*
  • A few shakes of black pepper*
  • ¼ cup hot water
  • 2 cups non-dairy milk
  • Optional: marshmallows and more black pepper

Instructions

  • In a small sauce pan, whisk together all of the ingredients, except for the non-dairy milk.
  • Turn the heat to medium high and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Whisk in the non-dairy milk and allow the hot chocolate to warm through, until almost boiling, while continuing to whisk occasionally.
  • Turn off the heat and, if desired, carefully froth the hot chocolate with a hand held milk frother.
  • Pour into mugs, top with marshmallows, another shake of black pepper and enjoy!

Notes

*The fat from the coconut oil as well as the black pepper in this drink have been said to help you absorb the curcumin in turmeric, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
